Vault 3 FAQ: How to Install Vault 3 on a Flash Drive

If you plan to run Vault 3 on multiple computers, a convenient option is to install Vault 3 and the Java Runtime Environment on a flash drive, and run Vault 3 from the flash drive. Follow the below instructions if this option appeals to you.

Install Java on your Flash Drive:

  1. Browse to
  2. Scroll down to "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)":

  3. Click the Download button.
  4. Select a platform of "Windows" if you intend to run Vault 3 on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. Select a platform of "Windows x64 if you only intend to run Vault 3 on 64-bit Windows:

  5. Press the "Continue" button.
  6. Click the "Windows Offline Installation" link:

  7. Click the "Run" button:

  9. IMPORTANT: Check the "Change destination folder" checkbox:

  10. Click the "Accept" button:

  11. Click the "Change" button and select a folder on your flash drive. For example, F:\Java:

Install Vault 3 on your Flash Drive:

  1. Download the proper version of Vault 3.
  2. Check the "I agree to the above terms" checkbox.

  3. Click the "Download" button.
  4. Click the "Open" button.

  5. After the download is complete, select File / Extract All.

  6. Click "Next".
  7. Click the "Browse" button and navigate to your flash drive. Create a "Vault 3" folder at the root of the flash drive (for example, F:\Vault 3).

  8. Click "Next".
  9. Open Notepad and create a "Vault3.bat" file with the following text:
    .\Java\bin\java -jar "\Vault 3\vault_win.jar"
  10. Save this file as "Vault 3.bat" in the root of your flash drive (for example, F:\Vault 3.bat).

Run Vault 3 from your Flash Drive:

  1. Click the Start button.

  2. Click "Run".
  3. Enter the path of the .bat file you created (for example, F:\Vault 3.bat).

  4. Click "OK".
  5. Click "Run".
  6. Vault 3 is now running from your flash drive!
