Prevent the Windows 8.X Charm Bar from Displaying Inappropriately

If you are on Windows 8.x and the "Charm Bar" is popping up inappropriately when you're using your (Synaptics) touch pad, here's how to fix it:

  1. Download the latest Synaptics driver. I recommend you go to the support section of your notebook vendor's website so that you'll find the correct driver.
  2. Launch the Control Panel.
  3. Go to the Mouse settings.
  4. Find the Synaptics settings.
  5. Disable "Edge Swipes":

Windows 8.1 Users may want to do this step as well:

  1. Right-click the task bar.
  2. Click "Properties".
  3. Click "Navigation".
  4. Clear the checkboxes in the "Corner Navigation" section:
