Why I Love Firefox
June 15, 2006

The Firefox browser has gotten its share of rave reviews in the media. But I rarely hear anyone comment on what I consider its absolutely best feature. FireFox allows you to completely control how animated graphics display. When I'm reading a web page, I find animated advertisements to be a huge distraction!

That's why I've configured Firefox to freeze animated graphics. Here's how I did it:

  1. I browsed the about:config page (just type about:config as the URL).
  2. I double-clicked on the image.animation_mode line and entered none in the dialog box.
  3. I deleted the Flash plug-in, which also renders distracting animations. The plug-in is named NPSWF32.dll, and on my system it was stored in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins folder.

image.animation_mode can have one of the following values:

ValueDescription
noneno animations
oncerun the animation one time
normalrun the animation normally
Keywords: Firefox, web browser, animated graphics
